How to make Oobleck

Oobleck is a wonderful sensory material for children. Since it's a non-Newtonian fluid, it exhibits properties of both liquids and solids, which children find facinating (I mean who can blame them, it is facinating!). It's also inexpensive to make, taste safe, and non-toxic, which makes it ideal for sensory play.

As I said it's super simple to make, you'll need:

  • 2 cups cornstarch
  • 1 cup water

Mix your two ingredients together and you've got yourself oobleck. You can add coloring if you'd like to make it a specific color, or essential oils if you'd like to give it a scent.

We also love to use cocoa powder in our oobleck to create 'mud' here's our recipe for that:

  • 1 3/4 cups cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water

Mix it all together, and enjoy!

You can also customize your oobeck by adding more or less water to give it the consistency you desire for whatever activity you're doing.

Happy playing!
